‘No one prepared me for this’ is a frequent comment made by those in senior agency positions. It’s that realisation that being a good designer, Account Director or Business Development Manager doesn’t necessarily qualify you for a leadership position. A different skill set is required as you are taken outside your comfort zone to experience new demands and challenges.
Agency Leadership - a half day workshop
The workshop is specifically designed to help you meet key challenges. We will cover:
- Awareness of different leadership styles, setting the style that’s right for you.
- Empathy with people and teams – understanding people’s needs and drivers.
- Effective delegation – why it’s important and how to do it in different circumstances.
- Tips for giving team appraisals effectively.
- Managing conflict and friction.
- How to inspire and motivate teams – building and maintaining a positive culture.
- Models that that help you to see the business more clearly and prioritise actions effectively.
The workshop is suitable for people in senior agency positions or for those who have been identified as future leaders. The workshop will be preceded by one-to-one conversations with attendees in order to make sure that the workshop content is as tailored and relevant as possible. For this reason, the workshop content is subject to slight change depending on the attendees’ needs.
The workshop will be facilitated by Jonathan Kirk. Jonathan is the founder of Up to the Light and advises a significant proportion of the UK’s top 100 agencies across a wide range of issues concerned with business growth and improvement. He is a regular trade press contributor and conference speaker, delivering speeches, workshops and seminars for organisations including the Design Business Association, British Institute of Interior Design, Agency Hackers, the Institute of Advertising Practitioners in Ireland (IAPI), Design Skillnet and The Agency Collective. He is a founder member of the DBA’s Experts Register. As the author of the influential ‘What Clients Think’ report, published annually, he is a widely acknowledged authority on the client/agency relationship.
Rather than being a workshop attended by multiple agencies with different agendas, each workshop is booked and attended by one agency.
